KOLEKTIVA is a group of three contemporary visual artists based in Ljubljana, Slovenia: Vesna Bukovec (1977), Lada Cerar (1974) and Metka Zupanič (1977).
We started to work together as informal group in 2003. In 2008 we decided to forma a group KOLEKTIVA in order to make a bigger division between our individual and our collective work. All of us also work as individual artists. We have all graduated from Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana in 2002. Metka Zupanič and Vesna Bukovec received MA in 2005 and 2006 at the same Academy.
In our group projects we are focused into research of inter-personal relationships, everyday life and the art system. Individuals, art public, passerby or specially target groups represent an important role in our work. We invite them to take an active part in the creative process and become co-authors of the work. We understand the process of art making as a means of negotiation, exchange and cooperation.
Kolektiva and Vegas Spray
The Brisbane public will be invited to share a particular Brisbane location and describe why it is special to them. They must also include the location details.
Six descriptions will then be sent to Slovenian artist collective ‘Kolektiva’, whom will interpret the Brisbane special spaces in the form of an artwork.
All the descriptions + collaborative artworks will be exhibited and delivered in the Papergirl Brisbane.

Papergirl Brisbane is a cultural initiative which works to bridge the gap between the wider public of Brisbane, and the local artists and writers who live here. In the style of American paperboys, art and writing is collected from the local creative community, exhibited in a gallery, rolled up, and then distributed by bicycle to the random passers-by in Brisbane’s CBD.
Vegas Spray will incorporate Special Place in the City into Papergirl to engage the Brisbane public.

In the frame of Brisbane/Slovenia collaboration KOLEKTIVA invites Vegas Spray to cooperate with us on a new project in the frame of our platform Special Place in the City.
Special Place in the City is a platform for artistic research conserning people, stories and places. The project started in 2004 and is growing ever since. The main guidelines of the platform are to explore relations between an individual, a space and a city, examining why a place could be special to someone and what prompts an individual to perceive a place differently. We chart new emotional maps and discover locations which people sense intimately. Inhabitants of various cities are asked to present their special place and tell its story, regardless of whether it is positive or negative. Stories of individuals provide a new or different reading of places, and uncover multiple meanings created by the experience and memories of the inhabitants.
